As the 16th World Congress on Art Deco commences, we bring you this lecture from our archives in honour of the host city, Miami. In ‘Tropical Deco, Miami to Mumbai: Urban Futures, Precarious Currents’, held at the CSMVS Museum in 2018, Prof. Fredo Rivera, Grinnell College, Iowa, talks about the common architectural development of Art Deco in the port cities of Miami and Mumbai. Tune into this lecture for a glimpse of the materials, movements and methods that influenced Art Deco in Miami, and how Mumbai, across the oceans, reflects a similar design language. Following his lecture, Dr. Rivera is joined in conversation by Sidharth Bhatia, Founder Editor of The Wire.
